NEWS BRIEF: Two Independent Structure Fires Contained on Single Rush Creek Road Parcel in Lewiston

On August 19, 2024, two separate structure fires were reported at two different times on a single parcel on Rush Creek Road in Lewiston. Lewiston Volunteer Fire Department dispatched Trinity County Environmental Health to the scene to manage environmental hazmat concerns related to illegal occupancy. Trinity County Building Division evaluated conditions and power to the property was shut down pending safety-related repairs.

The first structure fire was reported at 8:40 am and impacted an illegally occupied outbuilding. A second, separate structure fire was reported at 4:41 pm at the same Lewiston address, impacting a second large metal outbuilding. The origin of both fires remains unknown.

The Lewiston Volunteer Fire Department, Weaverville Volunteer Fire Department, Douglas City Volunteer Fire Department, California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), Trinity County Sheriff’s Office, Trinity County Environmental Health, and Trinity County Office of Emergency Services all responded to the event.
